Wire Transfers

When You Need to Send Money Fast

Need to make a time-sensitive payment, pay off a loan, or send money to someone at another financial institution? A domestic wire transfer is one of the fastest ways to send funds directly from your FWCCU account.

How Wire Transfers Work

Wire transfers are generally used for one-time payments when speed is important. To send a domestic wire, you'll need the recipient's name, the receiving financial institution's routing number, and the recipient's account number.

  • Speed: Typically sent within approximately one hour during business hours. When funds become available depends on the receiving financial institution.

  • Cost: $20 per domestic wire transfer.

  • Cutoff Time: Requests received after 4:00 p.m. will be sent the next business day.

  • Payment: Funds are deducted from your FWCCU account when the wire is sent.

Important: Wire transfers are typically difficult or impossible to reverse. Only send money to people you know and trust, and always independently verify the recipient's information before sending.

Transfer Money Between Your Own Accounts

External Account-to-Account Transfers (A2A)

Have an account at another bank or credit union? External A2A transfers let you move money between your FWCCU account and accounts you own at other U.S. financial institutions.

They're a great option for moving savings, transferring funds between checking accounts, or managing money across multiple financial institutions without paying wire transfer fees.

How A2A Transfers Work

  • Best For: Transferring money between accounts you own at different financial institutions.

  • Speed: Up to three business days.

  • Cost: Free.

  • How to Get Started: Set up transfers through FWCCU Digital Banking.

To connect an external account, you'll provide the other financial institution's routing and account numbers and verify ownership. Once verified, you can initiate transfers to or from your linked accounts through Digital Banking. Transfers cannot be completed if either account has a negative balance.

Recurring Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT)

Set It Once, and Let It Happen Automatically

Want to transfer the same amount of money on a regular schedule? A recurring EFT authorization makes it easy to automate transfers without having to remember to initiate them each time.

Unlike A2A transfers, a recurring EFT is established through Member Services and automatically processes according to your instructions.

  • Best For: Loan payments, recurring transfers between financial institutions, or other scheduled money movements.

  • Frequency: Weekly or monthly.

  • Cost: Free.

  • How to Get Started: Contact Member Services to establish an EFT authorization.

Recurring transfers must use the same accounts, amount, and scheduled day each time. Once established, transfers continue automatically until you request cancellation.

Member-to-Member Transfers (M2M)

Sending Money to Another FWCCU Member? It's Easy.

If the person you're sending money to is also an FWCCU member, you can transfer funds directly between your accounts through Digital Banking.

Whether you're helping a family member, paying back a friend, or transferring money between separate FWCCU memberships, M2M transfers are quick and convenient.

  • Best For: Sending money directly to another FWCCU member.

  • Speed: Immediate.

  • Cost: Free.

  • How to Get Started: Log in to Digital Banking.

You'll need the recipient's last name, FWCCU member number, and sub-account number (such as 01, 11, or 12).

Person-to-Person Transfers (P2P)

Pay a Friend Without Asking for Their Bank Account Information

Need to pay the babysitter, reimburse a coworker, or send someone a gift? Person-to-person (P2P) transfers, also called Pay a Friend, let you send money without having to collect the recipient's banking information.

How P2P Transfers Work

  1. Log in to FWCCU Digital Banking and go to Bill Pay to initiate a P2P transfer.

  2. Enter the recipient's mobile phone number or email address.

  3. Create a security phrase to share with the recipient.

  4. The recipient receives a personalized link with instructions for claiming the money.

  • Best For: Sending money to someone who may not have an FWCCU account.

  • Speed: Varies based on how and when the recipient claims the funds.

  • How to Get Started: Use the P2P transfer feature in Bill Pay in Digital Banking.

Transaction limits apply. Some financial institutions may not allow their debit cards to receive P2P transfers. If a recipient's card is not eligible, they can select the bank account information option instead.

Not Sure Which Transfer to Use?

Here's a simple way to decide:

  • Need to send a large or time-sensitive payment? Consider a wire transfer.

  • Moving money between accounts you own? Use an external A2A transfer.

  • Want to automate regular transfers? Set up a recurring EFT.

  • Paying a friend or family member? Zelle® or P2P may be a good fit.

  • Sending money to another FWCCU member? Use a free, immediate M2M transfer.
