Fort Worth City Credit Union: For Every Financial Season
Your financial life does not move in a straight line. Some years you are opening your first account and learning what a budget feels like in practice. Other years you are financing a car, buying a home, or covering a bill you never saw coming. The institution holding your money should be ready for all of it, not only the easy parts.
Fort Worth City Credit Union has done that work since 1929. City employees founded it during the Great Depression, working from a desk drawer in the basement of City Hall, to make affordable loans when banks would not. Today it is a member-owned Fort Worth credit union open to you if you live, work, worship, or attend school in Tarrant, Denton, Johnson, Parker, or Wise County.
Season One: Laying Your Foundation
Every strong financial life starts with two things: a safe place for your money and the habit of saving it. At FWCCU, membership begins with a share savings account and a $25 opening deposit. Once that account is funded, you can open checking, certificates of deposit, IRAs, and loans.
If you want your savings to grow faster, look at the High Yield Savings option. Keep an active FWCCU checking account, make at least 10 debit card purchases a month, and enroll in eStatements, and you earn 2% APY above the regular share savings rate for that month. It is a high yield savings account that rewards the spending you already do.
If you are raising children, this season can start early. The CU Super Saver Kids Club serves ages 0 to 12, and CU Varsity gives teens 13 to 17 savings and checking accounts of their own. Money lessons stick when your child has a real account to practice with.
Season Two: Building Momentum
With your foundation in place, you start making bigger moves. For most people, the first one is a car. FWCCU offers new and used vehicle loans, auto refinancing, and financing for boats, RVs, and motorcycles, with competitive auto loan rates in Fort Worth for qualified borrowers. If you are paying too much on a loan from another lender, refinancing deserves a conversation.
This is also the season to build credit deliberately. The Fort Worth Proud Visa is a low interest credit card with rates from 10.9% to 17.9% APR and no annual fee. Each quarter, FWCCU donates 1% of the interest paid to Cook Children's Medical Center and the Fort Worth Zoo, so your everyday spending supports your city.
When a goal calls for cash rather than a credit line, FWCCU's personal loans in Fort Worth reach up to $25,000 at fixed rates with no collateral required. You can use one to consolidate higher-interest debt into a single, predictable payment.
Season Three: Putting Down Roots
Buying a home is one of the largest decisions you will make, and you deserve a mortgage lender in Fort Worth who stays with you after closing.
FWCCU services all of its loans in-house, so you keep working with the same local team for the life of your loan. Your options include conventional mortgages with a 5% minimum down payment; FHA, VA, and USDA loans with up to 100% financing; and interim construction loans for building in Texas. Most FWCCU home loans do not require private mortgage insurance, and none carry prepayment penalties.
Already own your home? A home equity loan in Fort Worth through FWCCU lets you borrow up to 80% of your home's value, minus existing liens, with a $30,000 minimum. You can put that equity toward a renovation, debt consolidation, or education costs, with rates listed from 7.07% APR this month.
Season Four: Weathering the Lean Months
Every financial life includes a stretch when money is tight. In that moment, you need options that protect you rather than trap you. Payday lenders profit from your urgency. FWCCU's SMARTChoice is a payday loan alternative at 18% APR, with repayment terms up to 90 days, or 120 days once you have been a member for more than a year. You can borrow up to $750 in your first year of membership and up to $1,000 after that, enough to cover an emergency without starting a cycle of debt.
The Holiday Season: Breathing Room When You Need It Most
Gifts, travel, and hosting can stretch any budget in December. This year, FWCCU gives you two ways to handle the season without reaching for a high-interest credit card.
First, Holiday Skip-a-Pay lets you skip your eligible December loan payment, with no fee during the holiday promotion. That can be one monthly payment, two biweekly or semi-monthly payments, or four weekly payments. Most auto and personal loans with at least three months of history qualify, and an approved skip is not reported to the credit bureaus as a missed payment. Interest continues to accrue, and your loan term extends to cover the skipped payment. Real estate loans, Fort Worth Proud Visa cards, SMARTChoice loans, holiday and vacation loans, and delinquent loans are not eligible. You can enroll online, call 817-732-2803, or visit either branch. Enrollment closes before your December due date and late requests are not accepted, so sign up early in November.
Second, a Holiday Loan gives you up to $10,000 with terms up to 36 months, so you can cover the season in one fixed, predictable payment. Fund a new unsecured Holiday Loan between November 1 and December 23, 2026, and you are automatically entered in FWCCU's 12 Days of Giving. Twelve drawings run from December 9 to December 24, with gift cards for coffee, gas, groceries, restaurants, and more, ending in a $200 cash grand prize on Christmas Eve. The earlier your loan funds, the more drawings you are eligible for.
The Long View: Your Membership Pays You Back
This is what separates a credit union from a bank: you are an owner, not a customer.
FWCCU shares its earnings with you directly. Based on its 2025 performance, it returned almost $1.3 million to members, its largest profit-sharing payout yet. Savers received a 30% bonus on the dividends they earned, and borrowers got back 10% of the interest they paid, credit cards included. The credit union has paid bonus dividends and loan interest rebates for more than 40 years.
Your financial seasons will keep changing. The right partner changes with you. If you live or work in Tarrant, Denton, Johnson, Parker, or Wise County, open your share account with Fort Worth City Credit Union and start your next season on solid ground.
Rates are as listed by FWCCU in November 2026, are based on creditworthiness, and are subject to change. Holiday Skip-a-Pay enrollment is subject to approval; see fwccu.org/skippay for full eligibility. Holiday Loans are subject to credit approval. 12 Days of Giving: one entry and one prize per member; primary borrowers age 18 and older only; refinances and loan increases do not qualify.
